221st Undercover Agents
“Attached is a photo of myself in Vietnam. My cover job was OIC of the graphics dept, but my real job was working undercover for General Rienzi with John Keller. Our job was to get evidence of corruption in his command and turn the proof over for prosecution. I have been in touch with Gen. Rienzi recently, he is 91 and is including our story in his autobiography written by his daughter. I am also inclosing a photo of John and Nick Mills, the OIC of the Qui Nhơn photo detachment.”
- 1Lt Chuck Cook
I believe, at the time (1969), all of us in the unit (including Nick Mills pictured on the right) were unaware of this undercover operation going on while we went about our business. I suppose our unit and it’s mission gave our two undercover agents the perfect “cover” they needed to do their job. Maybe General Rienzi’s forthcoming book will have more details. - Paul
