Tom Kane confirmed “That is Young. He told me when he first came to 221st that he got a Bronze star when he was with the Americal Div. He said that the trigger on his M-60 got stuck as they were retreating and he turned around. I don't know if it was true or not he said it jokingly. He also said that he extended his tour to get out of Infantry. I remember seeing an Americal patch on his fatigues when he first came to the 221st.”

“I took this shot of Larry Young on May 2, 1970 exactly one week before he was killed.   It was shot seconds after the shot of Doug Itri that's already in my collection. The two of them were sitting on the steps, chatting. It was fairly late in the afternoon.”
